Jim Donaldson 1934-2026
Jim Donaldson was a foundational figure in the construction and dispute resolution industries, dedicated to fostering fair and ethical project environments. As a founding member of the DRBF, Jim played a vital role in shaping the organization’s early trajectory. He served as Vice President of the first DRBF Board of Directors in 1996 and served with distinction as its President in 1997. He received the Al Mathews Award for Dispute Board Excellence, the DRBF's highest honor, in 2004. He went on to serve as Secretary/Treasurer from 2005 - 2012.
 
Jim's expertise as a Dispute Board member was instrumental on landmark infrastructure projects, including the seismic retrofit of the Golden Gate Bridge, Sea-Tac Airport, and various Caltrans initiatives.
 
Beyond his technical contributions, Jim was a committed mentor and educator, serving as an associate professor at the University of Washington and guiding the next generation of industry leaders until his second retirement at age 80.
